EMERGENCY FOOD AND SHELTER PROGRAM
PHASE 40 & 41 Funding Announced

Emergency Food and Shelter Funds Made Available to Local Nonprofits

Whitman County, WA - The United Way of Whitman County announces that Emergency Food Service funds have been determined from two grant phases totaling over $40,000 to reimburse local non-profits for costs incurred to provide food and shelter in Whitman County. The National Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) grants are federal funds made available through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and managed by the United Ways in each distribution region with determinations made by a local board of experts and representatives who volunteer their time on behalf of the National EFSP Board.

Allocations were recently determined for Phase 40 and Phase 41. Each Phase had a separate application, and decisions were based on a percentage of each applying organization's total request, and their capacity to document funding on the federal level. For Phase 40 Alternatives to Violence on the Palouse (ATVP) was awarded $4,000 and The Council on Aging & Human Services (COA Human Services) in Colfax WA was awarded $15,376. For Phase 41 Alternatives to Violence on the Palouse (ATVP) was awarded $2,000, the Council on Aging & Human Services in Colfax WA was awarded $10,855, and the Pullman Community Council on Aging was awarded $7,398.

“Making this funding available to providers of essential services with food and shelter is crucial during these challenging financial times,” said EFSP Local Board Chair, Kris Finch. Eligible agencies who wish to apply for future funding may contact director@whitmanunited.org to be added to the EFSP applicant mailing, or keep current on all grant possibilities at https://www.whitmanunited.org
